Often, injuries happen because parents are not aware of what their children can do. Children learn fast, and before you know it, your child will be wiggling off a bed or reaching for your cup of hot coffee.
Car crashes are a great threat to your child’s life and health. Most injuries and deaths from car crashes can be prevented by the use of car safety seats. Your child, besides being much safer in a car safety seat, will behave better, so you can pay attention to your driving. Make your newborn’s first ride home from the hospital a safe one — in a car safety seat. Your infant should ride in the back seat in a rear-facing car seat.
Make certain that your baby’s car safety seat is installed correctly. Read and follow the instructions that come with the car safety seat and the sections in the owners’ manual of your car on using car safety seats correctly. Use the car safety seat EVERY time your child is in the car.
NEVER put an infant in the front seat of a car with a passenger air bag.
Babies wiggle and move and push against things with their feet soon after they are born. Even these very first movements can result in a fall. As your baby grows and is able to roll over, he or she may fall off of things unless protected. Do not leave your baby alone on changing tables, beds, sofas, or chairs. Put your baby in a safe place such as a crib or playpen when you cannot hold him.
Your baby may be able to crawl as early as 6 months. Use gates on stairways and close doors to keep your baby out of rooms where he or she might get hurt. Install operable window guards on all windows above the first floor.
Do not use a baby walker. Your baby may tip the walker over, fall out of it, or fall down stairs and seriously injure his head. Baby walkers let children get to places where they can pull heavy objects or hot food on themselves.
If your child has a serious fall or does not act normally after a fall, call your doctor.
At 3 to 5 months, babies will wave their fists and grab at things. NEVER carry your baby and hot liquids, such as coffee, or foods at the same time. Your baby can get burned. You can’t handle both! To protect your child from tap water scalds, the hottest temperature at the faucet should be no more than 120°F. In many cases you can adjust your water heater.
If your baby gets burned, immediately put the burned area in cold water. Keep the burned area in cold water for a few minutes to cool it off. Then cover the burn loosely with a dry bandage or clean cloth and call your doctor.
To protect your baby from house fires, be sure you have a working smoke alarm on every level of your home, especially in furnace and sleeping areas. Test the alarms every month. It is best to use smoke alarms that use long-life batteries, but if you do not, change the batteries at least once a year.
Babies explore their environment by putting anything and everything into their mouths. NEVER leave small objects in your baby’s reach, even for a moment. NEVER feed your baby hard pieces of food such as chunks of raw carrots, apples, hot dogs, grapes, peanuts, and popcorn. Cut all the foods you feed your baby into thin pieces to prevent choking. Be prepared if your baby starts to choke. Ask your doctor to recommend the steps you need to know. Learn how to save the life of a choking child.
To prevent possible suffocation and reduce the risk of sudden infant dealth syndrome (SIDS), your baby should always sleep on his or her back. Your baby should have his or her own crib or bassinet with no pillows, stuffed toys, bumpers, or loose bedding. NEVER put your baby on a water bed, bean bag, or anything that is soft enough to cover the face and block air to the nose and mouth.
Plastic wrappers and bags form a tight seal if placed over the mouth and nose and may suffocate your child. Keep them away from your baby.

]]>In the first months of the baby towards the forth week of life, he is able to fix his eyes for a few moments on faces and objects , about 30 cm away. For this reason, you can start teaching them certain images, books or hanging rattles adapted to these ages.
At the end of the first trimester, the baby will be able to hold certain objects in their hands and put them in their mouth. That is why at this age, it is good to play with the baby with rattles that can emit some sound or that are made of plastic or cloth so that he can touch or suck.
During the following trimester up to 6 months, the baby gains skills in the hands, notably increase his visual capacity and begins to vocalize. It is time to show him his own image in the mirror, he will have loads of fun.
Toys that stimulate senses (Different colour, textures and sounds, such as activity rugs, rattles, cradle mobiles or cloth stories.)
The toys for very young children have to fulfill a series of characteristic:
This toys can attract your baby attention and help her development.
Toys that help to discover your baby's own body; teethers & rubber dolls
Arriving at the end of the 6th month, the baby is able to stay seated between cushions, chatters and can only take the spoon, since his manual dexterity has developed quite a lot.
In order to continue stimulating these skills of the babies and encouraging them, we can play with them with plastic cubes of different colours, walkers, jumper balls or shapes that roll, mirrors and toys for the bathroom.
Up to 9 months, the baby will learn to turn around, discover the sensation of biting (Most baby start to have their first teeth around this period), the diversity of sounds and music begin to attract their attention, he is already capable to release an object to take another one for themselves and like to drop the toys. This is the stage where they usually develop a particular affection towards a stuffed animal, toys or blankets.
Children learn by playing at this stage. To play with them, we can use stack-able cubes, which can be put inside each other, toys with wheels, texture tales with different drawings.
During the last trimester of their first year of life, they will begin to crawl forward and try to stand up with some supporting areas. Endless possibilities are open up to them.
In addition, they will already understand simple concepts such as inside and outside, likes to put and take things, learn to say goodbye, likes to play ball and is able to return when they are playing, as well as starting to perfect the spoken language.
If you use walker for your baby, always ensure the safety before your baby starts to play!

Prevention is key
Make sure that you take time each day to give your child your full attention. Set aside a regular playtime with just the two of you. Point out good behaviors, big or small. Positive experiences like this helps children control themselves better during upsetting times.
It's also important to watch out for signs and situations that are likely to lead to an outburst and prevent them. If he throws a tantrum when he's overtired, set a regular naptime.
Always keep your calm
When your child throws a fit, it's either he wants to assert what he wants or feels that he has no control over a situation. The more upset he becomes, the calmer you should be - if you shout, the more likely he is to do so because they want to engage and match your volume.
Talk him down calmly and assure that everything will be okay, but be firm about the idea that he can't always get what he wants. Speaking calmly will send the message that things can be worked out through talking. A big, firm hug will go a long way, too!
Observe and Listen
Tantrums also often roots from miscommunication. Since young toddlers (2.5 years and below) have a limited vocabulary, they often can't say what they want. Or if they try to, the parents don't understand.
Talk to your child calmly and ask what she wants - if she points to the TV, she probably wants to watch something specifically. If she points to a sibling, it probably means that the sibling has something to do with why she's upset.
Offer something else
A great trick to make ids forget the meltdown they're having is by creating a diversion. Offer something new to their eyes like a toy they haven't played with in a while, a new book or a new yummy snack.
You can also let them play outside - a change of environment will surely boost their mood and forget their outburst.
Don't engage
When nothing seems to work, sometimes ignoring your child while throwing a fit will. Sometimes children just want to vent and let their feelings out (like us adults do). Let him cry for a few minutes and then try the abovementioned tactics again when he starts to calm down.
Toddler tantrums are a normal part of growing up - young kids are yet to grasp how they can handle their feelings and it's up to us parents to guide them accordingly.
